First day of school!

Good Morning!!!
We had our first day of school on Monday, (8/15/11), and with the help of my wonderful faculty and staff, it was a great day!  A big "THANK YOU" goes to all the parents and guardians who graciously got their children ready for the bus or drove them to school.

I had several conferences regarding parental concerns, and other committee conferences.  I encourage any parent who has a concern about their middle school child to call and set up a conference with me, Mike Johnston (Assistant Principal), Pam Smith (Counselor) or Bill White (504 Director/Part-time Counselor).  All parents are also welcome to utilize the resources in the DCMS Parent Center located in the 5th/6th grade hall.  Parents, guardians, grandparents, etc., who are interested in volunteering at the school can contact Anna Jones, Parent Coordinator, at Drew Central Middle School.  367-5235

In the past, there has occasionally been a new student that forgets which bus to ride, or gets left behind for various reasons, but Monday all went well at the end of the day for middle school.......No "lost child" calls were taken at the Middle School!  Hooray!!  

My new assistant principal, Mr. Johnston, was available for classroom-walk-throughs, and to help new students find their way to class.  I appreciate his help and expertise with the students.

A big thanks goes to Mrs. Jo Ann Norris, who came and worked on her off days - making Pirate spirit posters for our hallways.  Way to go Mrs. Norris!  Our hallways look great!!! 

Friendly reminders:

Thursday, Aug. 18 - 8:10 a.m. - Handbook assembly in the auditorium.  This assembly is very important - I will go over the rules and explain any changes in the handbook from last year.

Friday, Aug. 19 - 8:10 a.m. - all 5th grade students and faculty will go to the band room.  Mr. Self, our band director, will answer any questions new band students may have - and he will encourage any 5th grader that wants to sign up for band to participate.  Information will be sent home with the students for their parents to read about our band program.  If any parent has any questions or concerns - please feel free to contact Mr. Self at

I am so excite about this coming school year!
We have been working hard this summer getting classrooms ready, ordering supplies and learning about new technology for our buildings.
